FSGS with Albumin ++++ and Swelling on Face and Legs

The urine albumin test is done to check the amount of one protein, called albumin, in the urine. This protein is normally present in the blood and filtered by kidneys. When kidneys work properly, albumin won’t appear in the urine. On the contrary, if kidney filters are damaged, albumin will present in urine.
Our kidney filters, known as glomeruli, have two barrier functions: mechanical barrier and charge barrier. Albumin ++++ indicates both of glomerular mechanical barrier and charge barrier are disrupted and a huge amount of protein leaks from the kidneys. This can also trigger swelling on patients’ face and legs. Therefore, for this FSGS patient, management of albumin in urine is one important factor to treating his FSGS kidney disease.
There are two treatment options that can help alleviate urine albumin and swelling on face and legs.
The one is to take some medicines such as ACEI, ARBs and steroids. ACEI and ARBs can reduce blood pressure within kidneys and improve the permeability of glomerular filtration membrane, so as to reduce the protein leakage. Steroids can inhibit inflammatory reactions within kidneys and prevent protein from leaking. When protein leakage is under control, swelling will also be managed.
The other is to apply one systemic treatment called Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy.
