How To Relieve Swelling In FSGS
Focal Segmental Glomerulus Sclerosis (FSGS) is a kidney disease which mainly causes damage in patient’s glomeruli, and it often causes nephrotic syndrome in patient’s body.
A typical symptom of patients with nephrotic syndrome is edema, which often cause swelling in patient’s face and limbs. In fact, for patients whose condition is severe, they can even have pulmonary edema and abdominal edema.
Why patients with FSGS often have edema?
Nephrotic syndrome means patients will have massive proteinuria, which leads to much protein leaking in urine. Protein is an important substance in guaranteeing the osmotic pressure of blood flow, and the leaked protein will cause its decrease, which leads the fluid in blood to flow into tissue space, and then patient will have edema.
On the other hand, kidney has the function of filtrating out the excess fluid through patient’s urine, so when patient’s kidney function is damaged severely by FSGS, there will be a large amount of fluid accumulating in patient’s body, which can also cause edema.
How to relieve swelling in FSGS?
To relieve patient’s edema, an important measure is diet regulation. Patient should reduce his sodium intake, because much sodium in body can aggravate patient’s edema. And patient should supply his protein intake in his diet, which is important to relive patient’s edema and keep patient’s body health. Besides, if patient’s edema is very severe, patient will need to restrict his fluid intake, and patient’s fluid intake should be calculated according to patient’s urine amount.
In the treatment, diuretics will be used, which is effective to relieve patient’s edema. If patient’s edema is very severe, patient will need dialysis to remove the excess fluid in his body.
It is common for patients with FSGS to have edema, and patient should do what they can to improve their condition. If you have trouble in dealing with your disease, you can leave us a message. We can provide the guidance you need or do what we can to help you.
