The Common Stage 4 FSGS Symptoms
FSGS (focal segmental glomerular sclerosis) is one common glomerular disease. Just like other types of chronic kidney disease, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) divides FSGS into five stages. Stage 4 FSGS indicates kidneys are functioning at 15%~29% that must cause some common symptoms and complications.
When more than 50% of kidney function is lost, kidneys will be unable to filter blood, regulate blood pressure, maintain electrolyte balance and produce EPO normally. In Stage 4, more than 70% of kidney function has lost, so patients are more likely to suffer from the following problems.
* Renal anemia
Kidneys are responsible for secreting erythropoietin (EPO) that stimulates the body to produce enough red blood cells. When kidneys can't make enough EPO, lack of red blood cells lead to renal anemia easily, and fatigue, weakness and pale skin are just common signs of renal anemia.
* Foamy urine
Foamy urine usually indicates protein leakage in the urine that is caused by damaged glomeruli. If left alone, protein leakage may induce malnutrition, swelling and further kidney damage. Thereby, it is very important to manage proteinuria timely.
* Blood urine
50% of patients with Stage 4 FSGS have blood urine that is caused by the presence of red blood cells in the urine. Impaired kidney filtering system, urinary tract infections, other infections, and so on can induce hematuria.
* High blood pressure
As extra fluid and sodium retain in the body and kidney function declines severely, blood pressure will increase. For patients with FSGS Stage 4, high blood pressure is one dangerous risk for kidney health, because it can trigger further kidney damage and increase the progress of kidney disease largely.
