FSGS Symptoms

FSGS refers to a kidney condition in which scaring affects some parts of kidney glomeruli. As FSGS develops, there are some symptoms coming into light. If you have more than 2 of the following symptoms, you are at a higher risk to develop FSGS.

Protein in Urine

Protein in urine is one the most common symptoms of Kidney Disease. There are more than one million glomeruli in each kidney. Glomeruli work as renal filter to remove the waste products in the blood and keep the useful substances, such as protein, in the blood. However, when the kidney tissues are scarred, the glomeruli will lose its ability to hold the protein and instead, it filters out of the protein into urine, causing protein in urine.

Blood in Urine

Similar as protein in urine, red blood cells may be filtered out and causes dark urine or cola urine. Besides, there is another kind of blood in urine called gross hematuria which cannot be detected by naked eyes and only be found under the microscope.

Swelling

In some cases the level of protein loss can be very high and fluid retention with ankle swelling may occur. As the protein has ability to “lock” the fluid in the blood, the protein loss will cause fluid retention in tissues, causing swellings in ankle, foot, leg, eyes etc.

Fatigue

In some FSGS cases, Kidney Failure can develop which may give tiredness or fatigue, if kidney failure is very advanced.

The outcome of FSGS varies from person to person. Generally speaking, you may experience one of the following outcome:

- kidney failure develops and dialysis or transplantation is necessary

- It may continue unchanged for many years, requiring only regular check-ups with blood tests

- It may go away on its own in rare cases

FSGS symptoms are variable from case to case. All mentioned symptoms are the most common to see. If you are suffering other symptoms or have any confusion, please leave a message below or you can contact email to kidneyservice@hotmail.com
