Kidney Patients Should Do Exercises Moderately
2017-05-08 06:38We all know that the combination of exertion and rest is helpful for your recovery. But what should be the intensity of exercises for kidney patients? Recently one of our renal patients met such a condition. Her proteinuria could have well controlled, but due to bicycling for a long time, it relapsed. Now go on reading to learn more information.
This old lady was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. From last year, she began to accept treatment in our hospital. And she kept coming back for one check-up every three month. When she was just admitted in our hospital, her proteinuria was 3+, and 24h urine protein was 2.71g.
After systemic treatment, her urine protein reduced to +-, and 24h urine protein was controlled into 0.5g.
Last December when she came back, her 24h urine protein decreased to 0.25g.
Her proteinuria kept very well. As the weather got warm, she wanted to do some exercises, so she took bicycling. But due to overwork, the disease came back.
After bicycling, she found her legs became swelling, and there were much more bubbles in urine. When she went for check-ups, it showed proteinuria turned +. And she came back our hospital for treatment immediately.
Her state of illness was not that severe. With prompt systemic treatment, her proteinuria got improved. When referred to therapeutic effect, she gave us thumb up.
Cautions:
The disorders are easy to control, but as to the intensity of exercises, you can not ignore. Kidney patients should take moderate aerobic exercises to strengthen cardiovascular system function, boost resistant to disease and increase endurance to reduce the relapse of kidney disease.
There are some exercises you can do, such as walking, brisk walking, jogging, tai chi, bicycling, dancing, etc. How to arrange the exercise time and intensity? Simply speaking, during exercises, you can speak fluently, but you can not sing and you have severe breathing. This is the extremity of exercises for kidney patients.
Exercises are not recommended to acute glomerulonephritis or chronic glomerulonephritis patients who are in the stage of attack. When you are in the stage of recovery, you can do some exercises. But different patients have different condition. No matter which stage you are in, you had better talk with your doctor before starting exercises.
