In Nephrotic Syndrome, some necessary stubstance, like albumin leak in the urine. Therefore the protein in blood will decrease so as to oncotic pressure. Lower serum oncotic pressure causes fluid to accumulate in the interstitial tissues. The edema first occurs around the eyes, characteristically in the morning. With the disease develops, edema evolve to lower limbs. In advanced stage, fluid occurs in pleural cavity and peritoneal cavity, causing pleural effusion and peritoneal effusion, even developing into anasarca.

Kidney participates in regulating the blood pressure. As kidney suffers damage, the blood pressure will be influenced---patients’ blood pressure will level up.

Low levels of protein in the blood

With much protein discharging through urine, the protein level in blood decrease. Nephrotic Syndrome patients usually have proteinuria of over 3.5 grams per day. Most protein leaking in urine is albumin, which has the function of maintain oncotic pressure. Hypoalbuminemia is always accompanied by edema or swelling.

High cholesterol

This symptom is caused by two factors:

Hypoproteinemia stimulates protein synthesis in the liver, resulting in the overproduction of lipoproteins. The second factor is lipoprotein lipase which participate in Lipid catabolism leaks in urine.
