Symptoms Of Nephrotic Syndrome

Symptoms Of Nephrotic Syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is a kind of syndrome which can be caused by series of kidney diseases. Patients with nephrotic syndrome will have increase in the glomerular filtration membrane’s permeability, and the decrease in the glomerular filtration rate. Besides, nephrotic syndrome patients will have obvious symptoms.

Proteinuria

Proteinuria is a symbol of nephrotic syndrome. The protein in patients’ urine is more than 3.5g/d, and it is mainly albumin. Besides, the changes in glomerular filtration membrane is the main cause of the proteinuria. The glomerular filtration rate and the protein intake can affect patients’ proteinuria directly. In addition, patients may find there are foams on their urine’s surface, which is caused by the leaked protein.

Edema

Nephrotic syndrome patients’ edema is very arrestive. Patents may have edema in their lower limbs and around their eyes in the beginning. As patients’ disease progresses, patients may find they have pleural effusion, ascites, hydropericardium and pulmonary edema, etc. The edema in nephrotic syndrome patients is mainly caused by the large loss of protein, and it may also be caused by the retention of sodium and water.

Hypoproteinemia

Another common symptom of nephrotic syndrome is hypoproteinemia, and the level of serum albumin is lower than 30g/L. When the amount of protein compounded in liver is less than the amount of protein leaking out through urine, patients will have hypoproteinemia. In fact, to patients with nephrotic syndrome, more protein is produced in their liver than healthy people even when enough protein and calory are taken from their diet.

Hyperlipemia

Hyperlipemia is another common symptom of nephrotic syndrome. The formation of hyperlipemia is related to hypoproteinemia. The ratio of LDL/HDL will not rise until the serum albumin is under 10~20g/L, and the rise of this ratio will increase the risk of arteriosclerosis. Besides, patients may have lipid urine.

These above are the major symptoms of patients with nephrotic syndrome, and patients may have many other symptoms, such as fatigue, back pain, nausea and vomit, blood in urine, and so on.
