Large amounts of protein might be the most common symptom of Lupus Nephritis caused by SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus). Can acupuncture help them reduce protein in their urine?
Why does Lupus Nephritis cause proteinuria?
Lupus Nephritis is characterized by inflammation on glomeruli, which are tiny filters of wastes and toxins. Healthy glomeruli only allow some water and other micromolecule substances. Protein is originally held back by glomeruli because they are too large to pass through. However, then glomeruli are damaged, the glomerular permeability increases, leading to protein pass through. Hence, proteinuria occur in Lupus Nephritis.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a physical therapy, belonging to part of traditional Chinese medicines and it has now widely used in China as well as abroad. By inserting a steel needle into the skin on certain acupoints, this therapy can treat various disease or relieve some symptoms, especially pain, numbness, swelling, weight loss, congestion, etc.
Can Acupuncture reduce protein in urine?
Acupuncture can help smooth the blood pathways by eliminating blood clots, wastes accumulation and inflammation. Improve blood circulation can provide the kidneys with enough oxygen, blood and other nutritions so that damaged renal tissues can be repaired by kidneys themselves. As long as the kidneys can function well, all the symptoms such as high blood pressure, proteinuria, nausea, vomiting and so on can be relieved.
However, it might take a long time for patients taking acupuncture to reduce proteinuria. Yet, it is a natural way without doubt.
Better ways than Acupuncture
Even though Acupuncture is beneficial for reducing protein leakage, it is far from enough to treat Lupus Nephritis. More effective treatments such as Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy and Immunotherapy are needed. They can help restore normal immune system together with improving kidney function, which is the key of treating Lupus Nephritis.
