Lupus Nephritis is inflammation of the kidney that is caused by systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). This is an autoimmune disease. There are five stages of Lupus Nephritis. I will give you a brief introduction, and then focus on the treatment for Stage 4 Lupus Nephritis.
Five stages of Lupus Nephritis
Stage 1 (minimal mesangial): At this stage urinalysis is typically normal.
Stage 2 (mesangial proliferative): Hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, and acute renal insufficiency are rare at this stage.
Stage 4 (diffuse proliferative): This form is mainly treated with corticosteroids and immunosuppressant drugs. It constitutes about 40% of cases. Renal failure is common in this form.
Stage 5 (membranous Lupus Nephritis): is characterized by extreme edema and protein loss.
Treatment for Stage 4 Lupus Nephritis
● Diet restriction
Patients with Stage 4 Lupus Nephritis may need to monitor the intake of protein, sodium, potassium and phosphorous. They are, on average, suggested to take sodium not more than 2 grams per day, and limit fluid as well. Recommended protein amount is 0.6 grams per kg of body weight. Meanwhile, avoid foods high in potassium and phosphorous. As for detailed information, you can email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and our doctors will give you some suggestions for free.
It is better for patients to combine western medicines and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) together. Western medicines refer to steroids that can control symptoms fast, but they cannot solve the underlying problems. In addition, long term use of steroids may cause kidney damage.
Therefore, I recommend TCM, whose key effect is to improve blood circulation by expanding blood vessels and fight against inflammation. That is to help kidneys get enough blood volume and oxygen to repair the damaged renal tissues.
