Creatinine Level 108 and Lupus

Lupus is a autoimmune disease which easily causes kidney damage, known as Lupus Nephritis. Creatinine level 108 is still in the normal range for men, but a little higher for women.

Is creatinine level 108 a bad sign of lupus nephritis?

Before answering this question, i would like to share you the normal range of creatinine level firstly. The typical reference ranges are 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dL (about 45~90μmol/l) for women and 0.7~1.2 mg/dL (about 60~110μmol/l) may indicated normal kidney function in a male body builder.

So if your creatinine level is 108, it is okay for man, but higher for women. It is scientific to monitor your kidney function, if you have lupus or other autoimmune disease, such as Diabetes, Purpura etc. However, only creatinine is not a very smart sign with can tell the early damage of kidneys.

Creatinine level elevates, only when the kidney function has decreased for more than a half. In other words, if you are in a early kidney damage stage, creatinine may not show any sign.

Is there any other choice to detect the early Kidney Disease?

Sure. Besides creatinine, there are many Specific Tests which are created to detect the early kidney disease.

The tests may get the following ones involved:

- autoantibody tests

- Lymphocyte Subsets

- Toxin in Blood Tests

- Kidney Damage Tests

- Immune Tests

As for the lupus nephritis, there is a group of specific tests which totally help the lupus patients to monitor their kidney conditions.
