Cassava for Kidney Failure Patients

No matter what other people say, I do not recommend Kidney Failure patients to take cassava.
Properties in cassava
When it comes to starch, cassava (also called manioc yucca) is the third most consumed food in the world. Yes, we understood that cassava is an important edible plant, but you should know that it could be poisonous if not prepared correctly. According to scientific studies, the bitter variety of cassava contains large amounts of the cyanogenic glycosides “linamarin” and “lotaustralin”. The toxic substances may affect the liver, kidney, and some parts of the brain when the poisons are accumulated in the body.
As Kidney Failure patients have lost most of the function, failing to filter toxins and wastes adequately, they are not recommended to take cassava. In addition, cassava contain large amount of protein, which will produce many wastes that can burden the kidneys.
Healthy diet for Kidney Failure patients
At this stage, they are required to take low-sodium and low protein diet. However, they need high-quality protein intake since they may experience large amount of protein leakage in the urine or weak body due to malnutrition. Foods like egg white, fish, milk is OK for them to add on their diet.
More over, this Kidney Failure patients also need to limit their intake of potassium and phosphorous. Therefore, certain fruits and vegetables like bananas, citrus fruits, spinach, tomatoes, pumpkin, etc should be avoided. In addition, nuts, snacks and some dairy products rich in phosphorous are also not allowed for Kidney Failure patients.
Treatment for Kidney Failure patients
Treatments for Kidney Failure include dialysis and kidney transplant. Even though they are helpful, they cannot solve the underlying problem. The target of treatment should be improving kidney function. Therefore, more natural and effective alternative of dialysis is needed.
