Cortical cyst in kidneys are located in renal cortex which is the kidney functioning tissue. Because it is located in the outer part of kidneys, so surgery such as aspiration and laparoscope is used commonly to remove large renal cortical cyst. However, for small cortical cyst, surgery can do nothing.

In fact, there are some alternative therapies to surgery for these patients. One is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the other is Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy. Both of these two therapies can help reabsorb sac fluid and shrink kidney cysts gradually. The difference is that TCM is usually orally taking medications, while Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy is external application. The later therapy usually works more quickly than the former one.

Is there any medication for patients with dermoid cyst to avoid surgery?

To remove dermoid cyst, we would like to recommend surgery. Different from renal cortical cyst, dermoid cyst usually presents at birth and contains different substances such as teeth, fluid, hair or skin glands. If uncleaned completely, patients are at a high risk of infection, bleeding and other complications. From this point, doctors here suggest patients to do surgery to clean the area at which dermoid cyst is located. Even though there are some conservative therapies, surgery may be the best option.
