Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) is an uncommon cause of chronic nephritis that occurs primarily in children and young adults. MPGN type 1 is the most common condition than other two types.
Get facts on Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis
This condition refers to a group kidney disorders which cause damage on glomeruli. It is a type of glomerulonephritis caused by deposits in the kidney glomerular mesangium and basement membrane (GBM) thickening, activating complement and damaging the glomeruli. Idiopathic MPGNs are subdivided into types I, II, and III based on ultrastructural appearance. The following will introduce the three main pathological types of MPGN.
Type I the most common by far, is caused by immune complexes depositing in the kidney. It is characterised by subendothelial and mesangial immune deposits.
The preferred name is “dense deposit disease”.
MPGN II is a kidney disorder that stops the kidneys from filtering waters from blood. The immune system for those with MPGN II doesn’t work properly to rid the immune complex deposits. The deposits are located in the filtering part of the kidneys, or the glomerulus. This will cause glomerular cells to inflamed and impaired. Immune complex deposits in MPGN II are massive, hence, it is also named as Dense Deposit Disease (DDD).
Type III is very rare, it is characterized by a mixture of subepithelial deposits and the typical pathological findings of Type I disease.
Treatment for type I MPGN
This therapy can suppress the inflammation in the kidneys effectively and rapidly, thus stopping further immune damage to kidneys. Firstly, it can inhibit the inflammation on kidneys effectively, thus stopping further immune damage to the kidneys. Secondly, it can degrade the immune deposits on glomeruli so that the wastes can be filtered with urine. Thirdly, it can restore immune system and prevent from the formation of immune complexes. Finally, immunotherapy can control the symptoms of type 1 MPGN by activating the self-repairing system in kidneys and improving renal function.
Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this therapy can dilate blood vessels, reduce inflammation, and degrade extracellular matrix. This is to improve blood circulation so as to accelerate the discharge of waste accumulation. This is an external application so that it is more natural for patients with MPGN type I.
