The Common Hypertensive Nephropathy Symptoms and Complications
Hypertensive Nephropathy is one kidney disorder which is due to chronic hypertension. Because high blood pressure causes damage to kidney filtering system directly, patients usually have obvious symptoms and complications. 1. Heavy foamy urine
Foamy urine is resulted from protein leakage in the urine. High blood pressure makes pressure within blood vessels increase in kidneys, which leads protein to leak from kidneys into urine. In turn, protein leakage can cause further damage to kidney filtering system, thus forming vicious cycle.
2. Obvious edema
Because kidney filters are damaged, they are unable to remove extra fluid properly. Then, this causes one condition, known as edema or swelling. For Hypertensive Nephropathy patients, face around eyelids, legs, feet, hands and ankles are involved in swelling easily. In serious cases, fluid may even collect in lungs or abdomen.
3. Hypoproteinemia
As more and more protein leaks from the blood, plasma protein level declines gradually. When it is lower than 30g/l, we call it hypoproteinmeia.
4. Hyperlipidaemia
For patients with Hypertensive Nephropathy, hyperlipidaemia is one common complication that may cause some other problems.
5. Hematuria
Although hematuria isn’t as common as proteinuria for Hypertensive Nephropathy patients, it indeed appears in some cases. Hematuria, especially gross hematuria, may indicate malignant hypertension.
If uncontrolled timely and effectively, Kidney Failure must be the terminal result of Hypertensive Nephropathy. In that condition, dialysis or kidney transplant may be the only choices for these patients, and their illness condition can’t be reversible any more.
