What Causes High Creatinine Levels
For patients with kidney disease, a condition they have to deal with is high creatinine levels in their body.
Creatinine is a metabolic product of muscle, which is toxic to our body, and it should be filtrated out by kidney. While for patients with kidney disease, they often have high creatinine, which can reflect their kidney condition.
What can cause high creatinine levels?
Kidney can filtrate out creatinine continuously, and our body muscles and the meat we take can produce creatinine at the same time. So, creatinine level in our body can change in a stable range, and that is 0.5~1.3mg/dL.
In fact, many factors can affect our body’s creatinine level. For example, creatinine is produced by muscle, so if we take strenuous exercise, creatinine produced by our body muscle will increase obviously, and if we have lots of meat in diet, that can also produce lots of creatinine. Besides, when we have dehydration due to sweating or vomiting, that can also cause high creatinine.
On the other hand, for patients with kidney disease, they are more likely to have high creatinine level, which is mainly caused by low kidney function.
Is high creatinine dangerous?
In fact, high creatinine caused by most factors are not dangerous, because they can recover normal if their problems are solved. But if high creatinine is caused by low kidney function, that will be a dangerous condition, because that means patient already has severe kidney damage.
Kidney has strong metabolic ability, and half normal kidney function will be able to guarantee our body health. So, if renal patient’s high creatinine is caused by kidney damage, that means more than half kidney function has already been damaged. As we can imagine, patient’s kidney function is damaged severely at this point.
Thereby, patients with high creatinine should do what they can to improve their condition. Kidney disease is life-threating, and if you have any trouble in dealing with it, you can leave us a message, we will do what we can to help you.
