Can Fruits and Vegetables Reduce High Creatinine Level in CKD

Can Fruits and Vegetables Reduce High Creatinine Level in CKDCreatinine is filtered from the blood by the kidneys and expelled from the body in urine. However, people with Chronic Kidney Disease cannot properly filter out creatinine, so they may suffer from high levels of creatinine. One way to reduce high blood creatinine level in CKD naturally is to eat proper fruits and vegetables.

Low potassium

When the kidneys aren't working well in CKD, the potassium levels may become too high. This can be serious and even result in sudden heart failure. People with high creatinine level are suggested to eat fruits and vegetables that are low in potassium content.

Fruits: apples, berries, fruit cocktail, grapes, lemon, peaches, canned pears, pineapple, plums, and watermelon.

Vegetables: carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, onion, summer squash, and sweet peppers.

Low phosphorus

Unhealthy kidneys in CKD are no longer able to remove phosphorus from the blood and get rid of the excess in urine, high levels of phosphorus is a problem for people with CKD Stage 4 and Stage 5.

The daily recommended limit of phosphorus for kidney patients is 800-1,000 mg. All fruits are low in phosphorus and most contain less than 110 mg per serving.

Low-phosphorus vegetables include canned or frozen green peas, cabbage, beets, carrots, celery, eggplant, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce, onions, and rutabaga.
