What Can I Observe If I Have High Creatinine Level
Serum creatinine is one indicator of kidney condition. If it is higher than the normal, it reveals some healthy problems. Early diagnosis can make patients take action timely. What are symptoms of high creatinine level?
1. Thirst and decline of urine output
If the elevation of creatinine level is due to dehydration, it means the body is lack of fluid. Thereby, patients are more likely to feel thirst and decreased urine output.
2. Fatigue or weakness
No matter which is the underlying cause of high creatinine level, fatigue or weakness is one sign of high creatinine level. This is because extra waste products build up in the body that can cause less blood to flow all over the body. As functioning cells are lack of oxygen and nutritions, fatigue and weakness occurs easily.
3. Swelling or edema
In most cases, continuous increase of creatinine level indicates more than 50% of kidney function is lost. Removing fluid and waste products is one main kidney function. When kidneys are unable to play their function correctly, extra fluid will retain in the body, resulting in swelling.
4. Difficult or deep breathing
When kidneys are affected, breathing system is more likely to be involved in kidney problem. As extra fluid retains in lung, patients will suffer from difficult or deep breathing.
5. Bone pain and muscle cramps
Although creatinine isn't toxic, extra amount of creatinine accumulates in the blood. This can cause electrolyte disorder including phosphorus and calcium. Then, bone pain and muscle cramps will appear and affect patients' overall health condition.
These symptoms can remind people to pay attention to their blood test and creatinine level. If it is tested higher than the normal, patients should find out the underlying cause and take action as soon as possible.
