What Diet Should I Take to Lower High Blood Urea 80

What Diet Should I Take to Lower High Blood Urea 80Just like serum creatinine level, blood urea level can also reflect how well kidneys are working. Blood urea 80 is just higher than the normal, so it may indicate kidney damage. In this case, patients should follow a correct diet plan to lower their blood urea effectively.

According to the cause of high blood urea level, we give out the following dietary suggestions to reduce it.

1. Limit the protein intake

Urea is the terminal product of protein metabolism, so controlling the protein intake can help reduce the urea formation. Normally, kidney patients should restrict their protein intake as the following recommendation.

Stage 1 CKD, 0.8g/kg body weight of protein intake;

Stage 2~3 CKD, 0.6~0.8 g/kg of protein intake;

Stage 4 CKD, 0.6 g/kg of protein intake;

Stage 5 CKD, 0.4~0.6 g/kg of protein intake;

Patients on dialysis, 1.0~1.2g/kg of protein intake.

What’s more, patients should make sure half of their protein intake comes from high-quality protein, which can produce less waste product including urea.

2. Control the intake of sodium

When kidneys are damaged, sodium can burden the kidneys and worsen fluid retention and high blood pressure. Furthermore, it may induce dehydration which is one direct cause of high urea level.

3. Take in correct amount of potassium and phosphorus

Both of these two substances don’t need to be limited unless patients’ blood potassium or phosphorus level is higher than the normal. Most often, only if patients’ kidney disease develops into end stage, will patients’ potassium or phosphorus level be high.

4. Develop a low-fat diet

When kidneys are unable to filter blood normally, high-fat foods may cause blood to flow abnormally. This leads less blood flow into kidneys, so fewer waste products including urea can be eliminated out.
