What Types Of Foods Lead To High Blood Urea Nitrogen
High blood urine nitrogen (BUN) is a common condition for patient with kidney disease. High BUN can be caused by many factors, but for patient with kidney disease, it is more likely to be caused by kidney damage.
Diet plays an important role for our body health, so be careful in what should be taken is important. It is necessary for patient to know what diet can lead to high BUN, which is very helpful for patient to protect his kidney function.
1. High protein:
BUN is a major end product of protein, so high protein diet will surely lead to high BUN. What’s more, protein can produce lots of metabolic wastes, which should be filtrated out by kidney, and much excess protein intake will increase patient’s kidney burden, and that can damage patient’s kidney function, which will also lead to high BUN.
2. High sodium:
Much sodium can cause and aggravate hypertension and edema, which are common complications of kidney disease. And hypertension is a dangerous complication, which can aggravate patient’s kidney damage obviously if it can not be well controlled. So, it is necessary for patient to have a low sodium intake. And it is necessary for patient to avoid taking processed foods or other foods that contain much sodium.
3. Oxalate:
Patient should also be careful in taking foods that contain abundant oxalate, like spinach, dark leafy green vegetables, wheat brain, tea, etc, because oxalate can accumulate in kidney and cause kidney stone, which can cause further damage to patient’s kidney function.
