What is ringer lactate?

As you know, ringer lactate is an intravenous, or IV, fluid which is used for maintaining fluid volumes balance between the space inside and outside the blood vessels.

What are the compositions of ringer lactate?

Lactated Ringer’s contains electrolytes, substances necessary for cell functioning, such as sodium, chloride, potassium and calcium, but not in the same proportion as the human body.

Can ringer lactate be used for dehydration ESRD?

Generally speaking, ringer lactate is used for dehydration, burns, gastrointestinal fluid loss and acute blood. However, ringer lactate should not be given to patients with End Stage Renal Disease, because it contains potassium and may lead to hyperkalemia ( high potassium levels in the blood). Hyperkalemia might lead to some problems such as

● Abnormal heart rhythm -- arrhythmia -- that can be life-threatening

● Slow heart rate

● Muscle weakness

Moreover, ringer lactate is also not allowed for those with liver disease and acidosis. Consult your doctor for other medicines for treating dehydration in End Stage Renal Disease.

What are the treatment for dehydration in End Stage Renal Disease?

Treatment should be based on the real causes of dehydration. There are some factors in End Stage Renal Disease that can lead to dehydration:

● Digestive problems like vomiting or diarrhea.

● Frequent urination, which may be the result of kidney impairment or long term used of diuretics.

Dialysis

Ask you doctor to make a confirmation so that appropriate treatment can be given. In my opinion, neither medicines or dialysis is the best treatment for End Stage Renal Disease, even though they are helpful. You may as well try Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is a natural and effective way to improve ESRD patients’ lifespans.
