Why Do Diabetic Nephropathy Patients Have Pain on Legs
Diabetic Nephropathy results from type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and it can induce various symptoms including pain on legs. In severe cases, patients may be even unable to walk. Why does Diabetic Nephropathy cause leg pain?
Generally, several conditions can cause Diabetic Nephropathy patients’ leg pain?
Just like patients with other types of kidney disease, leg pain may be caused by renal bone disease.
When kidneys are damaged severely by diabetes, they will be unable to remove waste products and maintain electrolyte balance normally, resulting in low calcium level, high phosphorus level and vitamin D deficiency easily. All of these three factors can trigger renal bone disease, and legs are involved in this problem easily.
In this case, patients should take some methods to protect their remaining kidney functioning tissues and repair impaired but not necrotic kidney cells.
For Diabetic Nephropathy patients, the more common cause of pain on legs is diabetic neuropathy.
When leg pain presents in these patients, they should pay highly attention to the following conditions.
1. Peripheral neuropathy: It is the most common form of diabetic neuropathy, while feet and legs are often affected first and then patients’ hands and arms. In addition to pain, a tingling or burning feeling, muscle weakness, numbness, and some other symptoms may also appear.
2. Radiculoplexus neuropathy: This is one condition that high blood sugar damages nerves in the legs, hips, buttocks and thighs directly, and it is more common in patients whose kidney disease is caused by type 2 diabetes than type 1.
3. Mononeuropathy: It can cause damage to the specific nerve including face, leg and torso.
If Diabetic Nephropathy patients’ leg pain is caused by high blood sugar, they should take effective treatments and follow a healthy diet plan to control high blood sugar.
