Food That Cannot Be Eaten With Kidney DiseaseThere is an old saying in China: A closed mouth catches no flies. It means that you should keep a restricted diet in case of some diseases. People with kidney disease should pay more attention to what they take. This article is to give you an overview of foods that cannot be eaten by kidney disease patients.

High-protein foods

High quality protein intake should be based on your specific condition. If you are not on dialysis, you will be recommended a low-protein diet. Plant protein, such as tofu, beans, bean products contains high amounts of low-quality. Consuming too much of them may cause a buildup of waste product that is too large for your damaged kidney to process in a timely manner.

Once you start dialysis, however, you normally have to consume a high-protein diet.

High-sodium foods

High sodium level can cause high blood pressure and fluid retention when your kidneys cannot function well. Pickles, sausage, bacon, pizza, canned food, dried fruit or vegetables contain rich sodium, so they are not good for your kidneys.

High-phosphorous foods

Damaged kidneys also fail to maintain the electrolyte balance, leading to abnormal level of phosphorous, which can lead to bone problems. Foods high in phosphorous include dairy products, nuts, beans, soda, beer and cocoa.

High-potassium foods

Potassium restriction is also necessary. Many fruits and vegetables contain high potassium level such as broccoli, carrots, potatoes and other root vegetables, tomatoes, spinach, okra, beets, artichokes, nuts and seeds, dairy products, avocados, bananas, dried fruits, papaya, pomegranate, oranges, mangoes, nectarines, honeydew, cantaloupe and apricots.
