How to Manage Skin Itching for IgA Nephropathy Patients

How to Manage Skin Itching for IgA Nephropathy Patients With the progress of IgA Nephropathy, patients may suffer from various symptoms and discomforts. Compared with hematuria and proteinuria, skin itching isn’t so common but does occur in some IgA Nephropathy patients. Then, effective treatments to manage itchy skin become their big concern.

Most often, skin itching doesn’t occur in early stage of IgA Nephropathy, because kidneys in early stage can still eliminate waste products and toxins. However, with the decline of kidney function, damaged kidneys are unable to play their filtration function normally. Then, extra phosphorus will build up in the body which is one common reason of skin itchiness. Besides, if patients have begun dialysis, skin itching may be also resulted from allergic reaction.

From this analysis, we can know this skin change is mainly due to high phosphorus level in the blood. If you also have this problem, you can try the following methods which may be helpful to manage your problems.

1. Develop a low-phosphorus diet: Phosphorus in our body mainly comes from foods what we eat, so lowering high phosphorus level should begin from controlling the intake of phosphorus-containing foods. They are nuts, dairy products, sea foods, grains, and so on.

2. Use antihistamines or itch-relieving creams: Antihistamines can be used to treat allergic reactions and help to relieve itching, and some skin care products such as witch hazel and creams may also be helpful. However, this doesn’t mean all IgA Nephropathy patients who have itching can use these products. Make sure you have checked with your doctor, before using any of these products.

3. Improve kidney filtration function: Once kidneys can filter extra phosphorus normally, patients don’t need to bear skin itching any more. Now, Immunotherapy, Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy and Clear Blood Pollution Therapy are all helpful to treat IgA Nephropathy and rebuild patients’ kidney filtering system.
